The story began many years ago. A Belgium based cosmetic surgery company offered us the opportunity to perform gastric band surgery on patients from abroad, including the Netherlands, the UK and Germany . Our first consultation clinic in the UK was established in a dark basement room in Harley Street, London. The practice grew steadily. Unfortunately, we very soon became aware that this company did not share our ideals. We realized that money was the first concern of our employers. This is a noble goal, providing you continue to ensure that the " client " remains your first priority, assuring them of a safe surgical environment as well as good after care management. We very soon knew that change needed to happen. Change did happen and SOS -formerly known as Gastric Band Surgery Belgium - was created.

SOS is not another big money-making provider of weight loss surgery. No, it is a small company focused on providing a tailor-made solution for people who are committed to do something about their problem of being overweight and regaining the greatest gift one could ever receive - good health.

Unfortunately there are many service providers that fall into the category of money-spinners - they provide the opportunity of having surgery at home as well as abroad, but take no further responsibility for the outcome or possible complications following the surgery. These companies are nothing more than tour operators offering " medical tourism ". They will be happy to book your trip, your surgeon and your holiday and " take the money and run ".

We at SOS are not service providers. We do not offer sightseeing tours, boat trips or game drives as part of the deal. What we do offer is an honest service, with good aftercare and assistance to everybody - a service more essential than a fancy holiday package.

SOS is a totally independent organisation of surgeons, health providers and caretakers. We are based in Belgium with clinics in the UK and Ireland. As part of our team, we have co-workers in the UK and Ireland, all of whom are well qualified, and who endeavour to offer you the very best possible service.

We realise that during these difficult financial times we are all feeling the " credit crunch " and every penny counts. We may not be the cheapest, but quality at a fair price is one of our commitments. Money is important but value for money is even more important. We have special offers, but we don't have " summer sales " or " the lowest price " . What we do offer is a lot more - we offer good quality and longterm care in the interests of your health.

With SOS your surgery is performed in a large fully equiped hospital where all possible medical facilities are available. These include Intensive Care units, fully equiped theatres, X-ray facilities and laboratories etc. We do not operate in small private clinics and we do not accept compromise. Only the best is good enough for our patients.

Unfortunately we cannot promise you the moon - we can offer neither " money back guarantees " nor " satisfaction guaranteed ". Our philosophy is taken from the Toltec Wisdom book called The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, and I quote :

We are aware that sometimes the end result is not what one had hoped for, that complications can arise, that one becomes angry and frustrated, but our intention is that we are always 100% honest and that we are always prepared to help you to find a solution. This principle applies even if you did not have your surgery with SOS. We believe the patient to be the primary focus and in good fellowship we would offer assistance without accusation or judgement of our fellow medical colleagues.
