Eating Plan
After your surgery you will need a new eating plan. Immediately after the operation you will be required to follow eating and drinking instructions very carefully.
The first days
Take only small amounts of fluid as in tea or coffee, clear soup and clear juices. Take only small sips to prevent vomiting
One to four weeks
The following is recommended
- Clear broth or soup
- Skimmed milk
- Low fat yoghurt
- Jelly
- Fruit juice
- Pureed soft fruit or vegetables (5 - 6 tablespoons)
It is MORE important in the first weeks to allow your stomach to adjust to the band than it is to lose weight.
Four to six weeks
You may now begin to have more solid food. Do remember however that products like bread, red meat, rice etc, may cause problems. Moist white meat (chicken) and fish are the easiest to digest. Eat only three small meals per day, which include the adequate nutrients, contained in fruit and vegetables. Chew your food very well. Avoid high calorie drinks. If you find that solid foods cause nausea and vomiting, revert back to the liquid diet for a few days. Should this not settle and you experience excessive vomiting, swelling or discomfort then please contact Our Team or your general practitioner.
Frequent vomiting may increase the incidence of band or stomach slippage and stretching of the pouch and should be avoided.
